Best Climate of the Costa del Sol

Look no further than Almuñécar

The place with the best climate on the Costa del Sol? Look no further than Almuñécar. Thanks to its sheltered location between mountain ranges, the weather in Almuñécar is always just a bit better than in the rest of the Costa del Sol. That’s why the town is sometimes called Almuñécar de Costa Tropical. Doesn’t that sound wonderful? If you’re looking for a holiday in a tropical climate, you can simply fly to Almuñécar in just 3 hours.

The city of subtropical fruit
Almuñécar is also known by this name. The tropical climate ensures that exotic vegetation can be found here. Growing tropical fruit is therefore, alongside tourism and fishing, an important source of income for the local population.

Popular destination for Spaniards themselves
Almuñécar is a beloved holiday destination among Spaniards themselves. This is mainly due to the kilometers-long coastline filled with large sandy beaches, spectacular cliffs, and beautiful coves.

If you take a walk through all the typically Andalusian, winding streets with balconies adorned with colorful geraniums, you’ll eventually reach one of the cozy market squares and think to yourself, this is truly the authentic Spanish atmosphere.

That’s why Spaniards love to vacation here

Diving enthusiasts will love it here
In addition to the large beaches and spectacular cliffs, there are also small caves to be found along the coast. These come with some of the most beautiful underwater landscapes in Spain.

Almuñécar is truly a paradise for diving enthusiasts.

And the little water lovers among us? They can visit Aqua Tropic water park, where you’ll find the most exciting slides, but the beaches themselves also slope gently, so even the youngest can play safely.

But is there anything to see out of the water?
Absolutely! Almuñécar has a historic town center, featuring sights such as the Church of La Encarnación and an archaeological museum. The most impressive, however, is the Castle of San Miguel, dating back to the Moorish period. The castle was heavily damaged during the Napoleonic wars in 1830, but since 1986, restorations have taken place at intervals. The outer walls, in particular, are impressive to see and offer a stunning view over the rocky coastline. This is a must-see attraction during a holiday to Almuñécar.

Botanical garden with bird sanctuary
The path from the castle back to the center leads you past the small but charming Manjuelo botanical garden. A little paradise that is home to more than 200 species of subtropical plants and trees. Nearby, you’ll find a unique bird sanctuary.

For truly adventurous nature lovers, the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains are magnificent. You can go hiking, mountain biking, and even skiing until April. Some lifts go up to 3,000 meters. This way, you can be on the slopes in the morning and enjoy lunch at one of the chiringuitos on the beach.

Unique gastronomy in Almuñécar
The food in Almuñécar is particularly tasty and is still prepared in the traditional way. Dishes are mainly made with fresh fish, olive oil, wine, and lots and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

The many fish dishes served here mainly consist of sea bass, monkfish, the rare percebes, and other types of fish, seafood, and shellfish. Not a fan of fish? Don’t worry. There are also all kinds of other restaurants, such as grill restaurants and pizzerias. If you’re not ready to end the day after dinner, you can visit one of the cozy bars found throughout Almuñécar.

Do you want to enjoy a stunning coastline, tropical climate, unique sights, and the most delicious food?

Then a holiday to Almuñécar is just right for you!
